Robert Hall

Robert Hall holds degrees in piano performance, voice performance and choral music as well as diplomas in choral conducting and organ. He spent over twenty-five years as a music professor in the Department of Music at Laurentian University in Sudbury. He has recently relocated to Ottawa, Ontario.

VOCAL SOLOIST

Bob has maintained a steady schedule of performances as a baritone soloist, both in solo and oratorio repertoire.

PIANIST

Working as a collaborative artist has been something that Bob has done since he was a teenager. He has accompanied many soloists, chamber musicians, and choirs.

ORGANIST

A church organist since 1979, Bob has offered many organ recitals and organ accompaniments through the years. He played the inaugural organ recital for new organs at both Church of Christ the King (Roman Catholic) and Church of the Epiphany (Anglican) in Sudbury.

CHURCH MUSICIAN

Bob has been the Director of Music at churches for over forty years. He has served in congregations of the Anglican, Methodist, and United Church of Canada denominations.

ADJUDICATOR

Bob has adjudicated in music festivals across the country. He is comfortable in all areas, specializing in piano, voice and choral. He particularly enjoys small town festivals where he is able to do a variety of classes, and is comfortable with school choirs and bands.

COMPOSER

The compositions, arrangements, and transcriptions that Bob has written have most often been in the vocal and choral area but he has also had some chamber music commissions.

OTHER STUFF

SILENT MOVIES

Since 2004, Bob has been playing music for silent movies for public performances, both on the piano and on the organ. While comedies, especially with Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, have been favourites, there have been a wide range of films as outlined on the link.

DISKLAVIER

In 1992 Yamaha Canada loaned Bob a Disklavier grand piano and he completed several projects for Yamaha, including workshops and broadcasts. He was on the faculty at University of Guelph at this time. In 2003, at St. Andrew's in Sudbury, a Disklavier was acquired and since then he has done a wide number of performances, both in church and in concert performance.
